The Snow arrived, again this year, just in time for our annual expedition and this year we relied on the expert trail leadership of local woodsman (and Washburn Sage) Bill Schroeder! Everyone rode safely of course, but the crew is aging and Bill had to coddle us more than usual this year (Perhaps because he's aging faster than any of us)! He led us skillfully into and out of the woods, treated us to lunch at the casino and found a ton of fresh lovely snow. What'd we do without him???
John Pearson and Roy Bewick outdid themselves again this year by each procuring a new 4-cycle luxury sled, John an Arctic and Roy a Yamaha (brand loyalty being what it is among our group). We were all overwhelmed while riding their new sleds by the handling and styling of these marvelous machines, even though we found them to leave drivers overexposed to the dangers of the cold breezes we experience at these top speeds in this, an exceptionally cold season considering the global warming that Al Gore is teaching us about.
Cheryl and Wade and their crew did a bang-up job at the Village Inn (A Gracious Country Inn—except for the BJ week) as the new owners got a chance to experience a Big John Outing for the very first time. They took excellent care of us, in spite of our bawdy behavior. Cheryl is so gracious and accommodating, was somehow always able to anticipate the personal needs of each and every one of us. We were able to convinve them to allow us to return for another year on February 5-9, 2008.
The sledders that partook in the 2007 expedition (and their # of trips) were: John Pearson (33), Roy Bewick (32), Dave Hagen (30), Paul Bewick (27), Bill Schroeder (25), Tom Elmquist (25), Jim Alford (18), Tom Orne (16), Don Larson (13) and Barry Melchior (4)!
Dave Mohr was unable to participate this year because he had earlier succumbed to an offer to go sledding in the UP. But he vows to return next year and to lead us again into the vast wilderness of the Chequamegon!!
If you have a video playing software (Windows Media Player, etc)you could join us on a run through the woods here:
