Photos taken during third Chippewa Leg, Ella to Pepin

[Trip Section Photo 1] [] [] [Trip Section Photo 2]

On a great, sunny Summer day, Tessa, Jeff and Dave set out from the Ella Landing to conquer the final leg of the canoeing portion of this long expedition. We found a heavy headwind but made great time on a leisurely paddle. We stopped to explore and rest. We found that as we approached the Delta formed by the Mississippi intersection that the sand built up and made the river very wide and quite shallow in spots. In fact, late in the summer as we were, we found that we had to pole a few times in order to get over the banks of some of the underwater ‘dunes’. Tessa alternated between ‘paddling’ and ‘duffing’ on this leg, and we had a great outing. We approached the Take Out by choosing the wrong side of the final island and had to scramble in order to get back to the landing coming back up the high-velocity side to get to where our ‘Shuttle Driver’ Grandma Patty.
