On a great, sunny Summer day, the Elmquists and Hagens met the Petrichs at Dick’s Bar in Hudson for a hearty breakfast, then headed for Pepin, WI in search of Wisconsin cheese to complement our French wines. We were preparing to sail Lake Pepin with Captain Dave Sheridan in his 31’ Messenger. It turned out to be a gorgeous day on the lake with wonderful winds for learning to sail. Ward steered, Dave S. tended the sails and Tom kept watch. The rest of us relaxed and enjoyed the French wines that we had brought back from our 2003 trip to Provence. It was a great day on the water and we capped it off with a great meal at the Bay River Café in Bay City, WI. The owners reflected the good times of days gone past as well as the wonderful tastes of herbs and spices locally grown. It was a great outing, gave us confidence in our sailing ability and caused us to consider a week-long sailing outing among the Greek Isles. The jury is still out on that adventure.
