[Expression]

After 3 professional careers, Patty searched for a hobby as she was winding down her law practice. She started drawing and found it challenging. In our 1st winter in Fountain Hills, she enrolled in a Drawing Class and started experimenting with embellishing her drawings with color. Voila! Her talent for painting emerged.

Her 1st experience was with Water Colors, which she found to be educational but lacking in expression of color breadth. She moved on to Acrylics and was much more able to present the image that was in her imagination.

In our 2nd winter in Fountain Hills, she enrolled in a Painting Class and discovered a very helpful instructor. With encouragement, she improved her Acrylics and looked for other mediums. She is now doing a lot of Oils and will decide on the medium based on the image that she is hoping to present. Her teacher also suggested other objects and materials that can blend in with the paint to bring out depth and deeper character to her work. Because she has always loved animals, she does very well at bringing out character in horses, pets and living images.

She’s developed a method of representing places we’ve visited with others or expressing ideas that we have in common with family and friends. In this manner, her paintings represent deeper memories than just the image itself. Much more thought-provoking than a photograph on your wall, a framed sketch or painting from a friend that you’ve shared experiences with can bring back much deeper recall!
